From April, new episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was started. It is the first time on air in Japan since 1993, thus I enjoyed this anime with old memories.
I think the first anime would have produced in US, and animes from US, especially in '50s or '60s, were on air in Japan. I can recall,
Looney Tunes(Bugs Bunny and Road runner)
Tom and Jerry
Disney
And also, my friend suggested Peanuts(Snoopy) (I don't remember this anime well, though I really like manga of Peanuts)
Since '80s, there have been few animes from US, probably as much as 1 anime a year. However, there animes constitute a substantially large part of my anime history.
I hope this time's Ninja Turtles is remembered long time as well, and some new interesting animes are imported from all over the world.

heh, it seems that animes aren't jsut slow to go from japan to america....i think i know what series of TMNT you are talking about, and i think that aired here....maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
looney toons and tom and jerry in japanese? i'm really curious to see that. i guess it would be similar to a japanese anime with a lot of culture jokes coming to america...
I believe that, at least in America, 'anime' only applies to a certain style of animation, of which American cartoons don't fall into. However, it's definitely interesting to see a Japanese person's perspective on these.

This time of TMNT came rather fast, compared to looney tunes aired in Japanese 30-50 years later from air in US.
Yes, looney tunes and tom and jerry were translated to Japanese (Japanese voice). A large number of people born in '70s or '80s would know Tom and Jerry, It's very popular then.

Hmm, that distinction is interesting. Also in Japan, there would be "Anime for kids" and "Anime for otaku", but the distinction is vague. (Sailor moon is basically for kids, I think.)
I think anime by Miyazaki Hayao and Disney might be categorized specially, because they are also seen by ordinary people with less interest in anime.
